Other "closeted" government-worker conservatives??

Haven't been too active here recently. Then I thought about how I might do a little social networking using this blog. I became a conservative over time. Working in government and being conservative is an interesting experience. Of course I encounter Republicans in elected capacity, and their staff often have a conservative bent. But generally I'm surrounded by liberals and keep my politics to myself.

I recently worked with a colleague who was dismissive of both the elcted official and the staff that supported him based solely on their politics; they were actuallly supportive of the issue being discussed. I kept my thoughts to myself; wishing I could state my real views but knowing how costly it could be to my career. I'd love to hear from other workers "in the closet" as conservatives.

Van Jones out

It's easy to figure that this guy was doomed, but I find it unbelievable that if you read the NYT, the first you even knew that Van Jones was is trouble, was his midnight resignation. Pathetic. addam

Is Obama agenda overwhelming his critics?

I've thought about this along the way recently. The professor makes the point in this post. If you spent any time listening to the Glenn Beck last week, I had the same uneasy feeling. Remember when the Obama administration was criticized for not filling administrative posts? Well, he was too busy appointing Czars; unconfirmed executives with unclear authority (or unchecked authority). I know Obama is cagey. Is he cagey enough to establish a strategy that creates a separate administrative structure from the one authorized by the constitution? What will he do about the military? Just how dangerous is this guy?

Seems to me Obama may not care about the most important check to Presidential power; re-election. If he get's his sweeping move to socialism; sets in motion public insitutions not currently authorized in the constitution, and doesn't worry about a second term, he establishes himself as the don of a criminally designed democratic party. Wealth, power, not accountability. Just saying. addam

The Honduras thing

This has been a sorry chapter in the Obama administration foreign policy to date. For those not aware of what happened there, here's the simple explanation. Zeleya, recently deposed president, was facing a strict term limit, imposed by the Honduras constitution because of the tendency of leaders to impose reconstruction on civil order and place themselves in permanent roles (think Chavez). Zeleya attempted to run a "ballot initiative" that would violate the Constitution and the Honduras supreme court called him on it. He was arrested and expelled from the country. You'd expect the US to support the rule of law in a democracy; right? Well, not so much. Obama supported the views of Castro and Chavez and has used diplomatic resources to interfere with the internal activities of a freely elected and civil democracy. Shame. Too bad Obama doesn't feel as strongly about Iran. addam

There's a trend here

Obama's numbers continue to tank; even with his media support. The American people will not be fooled.

Hard working??

Ace gets it. The key graf in this bit on the poor president having his vacation interrupted:
I kind of worry that this poseur has never had a position of responsibility in his life -- his highest-stress position was editing the Law Review 20 years ago -- and it's possible he's going to freak and crack as he experiences difficulties and trouble for the first time in his life.

Media malfeasance

I've always believed in the media. Well, I believe in the need for a free press and their role in democracy remains central to the success of our institutions. For that reason, one of the most disturbing things to happen in my life is the wholesale acquiescence of the media (legacy) to political agendas, abandoning responsibility to their special place and calling. Nothing signified that sell-out more than the Rather story in 2004. Little Green Footballs did yeoman work in revealing the malfeasance of CBS at the time; today they continue the story that should have been laid to rest years ago.

I have come to believe that CBS, Mapes and Rather knew what they were doing, and in their ignorance and arrogance decided that they knew best what the country needed, and perpetuated nothing short of fraud on the American people. This remains the most egregious example of the legacy medias failures; sadly it's not the only or the last. addam
